SACTWU CONGRESS ELECTS NEW LEADERSHIP


The 11th National Congress of the Southern African Clothing & Textile Workers’ Union(SACTWU) has elected the union’s new national leadership. They will hold office for the next three years, until the next National Congress.

Voting was completed on Friday evening, and the results were announced on Saturday afternoon, 25 September 2010. The positions of President, 1st Deputy President, 2nd Deputy President, National Treasurer, General Secretary and 1st National Organising Secretary were uncontested. The positions of Deputy General Secretary and 2nd National Organising Secretary were contested. The newly elected and re-elected National Office Bearers and National Secretariat members are as follows:

Violet Seboni will be honoured at SACTWU’s 11th National Congress to be held on 23rd-25th September 2010 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre
 

Violet Seboni passed away on Friday 3 April 2009, in a car accident on her way to Mafikeng, where she was to participate in ANC election campaigning.

Her death was met with shock and sadness, for this Deputy President of SACTWU had so much promise left in her and was destined to play a bigger role in the affairs of the nation.

This Congress pays tribute to her life and work.

Her funeral was held on Easter Monday 13 April 2009.

The leadership of Cosatu, the ANC, SACP, Women’s League and Sactwu as well as the Mayor of Johannesburg and the Premier of Gauteng, paid tribute to her. Her family received messages of condolence from the ANC President as well as from union leaders across the world.

Zwelinzima Vavi, COSATU General Secretary, will address the SACTWU National Congress at 10h00 on 23rd September 2010, at the Cape Town International Convention Centre

 


 

The National Congress is the highest policy- and decision making structure of the Southern African Clothing & Textile Workers’ Union (SACTWU).  The union’s constitution requires it to be held once every three years. Congress is an opportunity to review the work of the organisation, specifically progress with the implementation of its Programme of Action decisions adopted at the previous Congress held 3 years ago. It is also an opportunity renew the mandates on policy and leadership, for the period ahead.

The last Congress was held in August 2007, at the Durban International Convention Centre. This year’s Congress will be the union’s  11th since its founding in 1989. The 11th Congress will be held under the theme “A New Growth Path for the Clothing, Textile, Footwear & Leather Industry”. Approximately 700 delegates, guests and staff members are expected to attend.  Mr Vavi is expected to deliver a speech which will cover COSATU positions on current socio-economic and political challenges facing the labour movement in South Africa.

New Support Measures For The CTFL Industry : Information Pamphlet For Employers And Shop Stewards

 

- Over the last year, at least five major new incentives and support measures have been introduced to assist clothing, textile, footwear and leather (CTFL) manufacturers.

  The SA Clothing and Textile Workers’ Union (SACTWU) would like to bring these measures to your attention with a request that your company takes steps to use them.
  The five new schemes offer financial assistance or relief to businesses in the industry. They are :
 

  (a) the Production Incentive,

  (b) Working Capital Loans,

  (c) the Competitiveness Improvement Programme,

  (d) the Manufacturing   Investment Programme, and

  (e) the Training Layoff Scheme.

 

The schemes are only available to companies that comply with Bargaining Council agreements and labour laws. Downlaod the complete pamphlet below....
