Press Release: Immediate

The 36th Annual SACTWU Spring Queen will take place on Saturday 17 November 2012, at the Good Hope Centre in Cape Town. This year the event will see 53 women all from the clothing, textile and leather sectors across the Western Cape, strut their stuff on the catwalk in the hope of being crowned the 2012 SACTWU Spring Queen.

The Spring Queen is one of Cape Town’s biggest events, with the Good Hope Centre filled to capacity with workers and employers celebrating the evening with banners and T-shirts emblazoned with their factory names.

This annual event is the largest fashion show featuring workers as models. The experience is packed with fun and of great significance for the industry as it showcases the faces that are responsible for the manufacturing of garments, shoes and fabrics that are sold in retail stores and boutiques across South Africa.

Local talents such as Alistair Izobell, Karen Korje, Nur Abrahams and Zayne Adams will keep the crowd entertained with their performances. For the second consecutive year three factory workers will compete for the SACTWU’s Got Talent title.
Also on display this year will be an exhibition produced by the Centre for Curating the Archive (UCT) of all former Spring Queen memorabilia. Everyone is welcome to take a look at this.

The programme starts at 19:00 for 19:30.
