Media Release: Immediate

The Southern African Clothing & Textile Workers’ Union (SACTWU) has settled its 2018 wage negotiations in the Wool & Mohair Processing textile sector.

The agreement was reached under the auspices of the National Textile Bargaining Council, with our employer counterparts represented by South African Wool and Mohair Processors Employers Organisation (SAWAMPEO).

It is a two year agreement and workers in this sector will receive an 8% and 7.5% package increase this- and next  year, respectively. For this year, the 8% package will be taken as a 7.5% increase on wages and a 1% increase to improve employer contributions to the provident for those companies whose employer provident fund increase is still below 7.5%.

Increases are due on the 1st  July each year, and will be backdated this year. It means that our members will receive two months’ back-pay, when they get paid the increases this coming Friday.

In addition, shop stewards leave for union activities will be increased by an additional paid day.

The agreement was signed yesterday.

The Wool & Mohair sector is mainly located in the Eastern Cape.
