On Friday 11 October 2019, the COSATU-affiliated Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers’ Union (SACTWU) commenced a protected strike at Ngwenya Lodge in Komatipoort in Mpumalanga. Our members are on strike for annual bonuses, wage increases and standby bonuses.

The workers are demanding a 15% wage increase, but the employer is only offering 6% wage increase. The employer has offered R730 for the standby bonuses, but the workers are demanding a standby bonus of R1500 for every time that they are on standby. Our members have also raised the issue of 13th cheques. In previous years they have received 13th cheques but did not receive one last year. In  this regard, the employer is offering performance based bonuses, which is a major departure from previous practices.

We will support our members and continue to fight for better rights for all workers.

The media is invited to cover this strike
