Sweep and mop floors daily 

Emptying trash on a daily basis

Clean and disinfect staff toilets

Vacuuming of offices if there are carpets, once a week 

All kitchen utensils and cloths must be washed and kept neat at all times 

Report on office groceries (milk, sugar, tea and coffee) once a month

Ensure sterilization of equipment, adherence to infection control protocol

To provide basic nursing procedures including vital signs and hygiene 

Verify legal informed consent and age of clients  

Assist medical officer during MMC surgical procedure as per training including suturing where instructed 

To apply post-operative dressings 

Educate ad instruct clients on post-operative wound care, risk behavior and routine condom use 

Ensure required administrative duties are carried out at site and all forms are appropriately completed 

Conduct post-operative follow up examinations and emphasize education

Diploma in General nursing required 

Current registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse 

1 year practical VMMC experience advantageous

Computer literacy- MS office, excel spreadsheet and email 

Fluent in Zulu and English

Good interpersonal skill

Good communication and report writing skills – ability to interact with clients and their families tactfully

Be organized with strong administrative skills

Work well under pressure

Independent / self – starter

Discreet and maintain confidentiality 

Code 8 license

Good IPC skills

Possess wound care knowledge – be able to assess and prescribe relevant dressing product

Have  an analytical and methodical approach to problem solving

MAIN DUTIES 

Manage moderate to severe adverse events. 

He /she will work closely with the VMMC team who will give him a list of all clients who have adverse events. 

Will do follow ups on these patients regularly till adverse event resolves.

Keep accurate report of all clients. 

Will also report severe adverse events to the regional manager within 24 hours. 

Participate in other VMMC activities such as camps and routine follow up. As IPC personnel, the individual will assist and support staff in upholding IPC principles. 

Assist during external assessments

Lead the teams to do pre assessment preparations

Give feedback on assessment to the team and write informative reports to the QA and regional managers

Be part of the quality improvement team

DUTIES

Maintain strict client confidentiality

Provide a welcoming and supportive environment for all clients

Provide Pre-and post-test counselling, as well as risk reduction counselling for clients, individually and in groups.

In the clinic waiting rooms provide education and information to clients on HIV/STI/TB nutrition etc.

Establish a relationship of trust and respect with clients 

Help clients towards a deeper understanding of their concerns around HIV/AIDS/STI and TB 

Inform clients about the various decisions  and the choices regarding ways forward and the options that are available to them

Encourage clients to talk about issues they feel they cannot normally share with others

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

HIV counselling and testing 

Knowledge of MMC procedure 

Fluent in English and Zulu 

Ability to work under pressure 

Availability to work over weekends essential i.e. go the extra mile 

Share other duties with the team

Driver’s license will be an advantage 

 

DUTIES

Give basic education to the community om MMC/HIV prevention 

Effective mobilization 

Assist with  the collection of follow up forms from various clients

Educate and instruct clients on post operation car; risk behavior and consistent use of condoms

Follow required administration duties including checking of signed consent forms through to the distribution of follow up forms -  obtaining the proper legally informed consent form

Meet with traditional leaders, SGBs, parents, LO teachers, company managers, taxi associations, football clubs, taxi ranks, religious fraternities, facility MMC coordinators and managers in the community. 

Able to identify MMC isolated adverse events, report and report to health provider 

Proper method of referrals eg how, when and whom to contact.

SACTWU WORKER HEALTH PROGRAM (SWHP), a PEPFAR funded initiative, has the below position available to support and complement the existing VMMC Program. The individuals will be based in the EThekwini District.
